Hi, David Catalano here.
Another great question dentists ask me is, "What is the secret to
financial wealth in dentistry"?
The trick to building wealth in dentistry is to
maximize your practice cash flow and
fund your tax-deferred investment vehicles (qualified plans
and/or real estate).
After these investments are made, then begin to fund your non-qualified
investment vehicles (non-retirement plan investments like mutual funds).
Do this while keeping your lifestyle low and you cannot help but grow
wealthy. Why? Because of compounding. Every year you get returns on your
returns.
You need to feed these investment machines until they form a life of their
own. Eventually you can stop adding new money and begin to pay off your
debt. Feed the investments, then pay off your debt. If you do it in
reverse, you will have to feed the investments much longer. That is why it
makes more sense to have long term debt (with a low payment) and invest,
versus waiting to invest until your debt is paid off.
Send me an email if you would like a simple mathematical presentation of
this concept. If you cannot find the money to invest, look at your
current debt structure. If you are paying debt off quickly, you are
robbing your retirement. Consider the following example.
|
Debt
Amount |
Term |
Rate |
Payment |
Annual Difference |
|
$250,000 |
5 years |
7% |
$4,951 |
- |
|
$250,000 |
12 years |
9% |
$2,846 |
- |
|
Difference |
|
|
$2,105 |
$25,260 |
If you invest $25,260 per year for 10 years ($252,600 in total) and then
stop adding funds, you will have $3,079,980 in 20 years assuming a 9.75%
annual return. This is a 30 year investment horizon. Don't have 30 years
until retirement? Then jump start the process. Ask me how.

Schedule An Appointment on a Monday or Wednesday
I schedule initial client calls with the intent to determine if it makes
any sense for us to work together. If it doesn't, I am totally okay with
that. My team and I cannot help everyone. I must feel that we can add
value to your life before we will accept you as a client. And you must
feel the same.
To schedule a time for a 30 minutes call, please reply to this email or
give Meghan a call at 800 800-1776.
Thank you and have a great day!
